How long will my results take?
It is your responsibility to contact the surgery after sufficient time and ask for your results. Then please add in the following bullet points:
- Blood results – Please allow up to 7 working days for results to be reported and reviewed by the GP
- Urine results – Please allow 5 to 7 working days
- Stool samples/Swabs – Please allow up to 2 weeks due to the nature of the specimen
- Scan results – Please allow 3 – 4 weeks
- X-ray results – Please allow 10 – 14 working days.
If your test was not requested by the surgery, please contact the provider directly as we receive the same information as you do if this was not done in surgery.
Getting your test results
If your test results show that you need more tests or treatment, we will contact you.
Once a doctor has reviewed your test results, you can view them:
- in your NHS account (through the NHS website or NHS App)
- in your SystmOnline account
- by phoning us on 0121 203 2888 and press option 2 between 11am to 1pm and 3pm to 5pm
Sometimes, we cannot always give results over the phone; if the result is complicated, or if the doctor wants to see you to discuss the result, we will offer you an appointment.
We do have a strict policy regarding confidentiality and data protection. In this respect we will only give out results to the person they relate to unless that person has given prior permission for their release or if they are not capable of understanding them.
Questions about your results
If you want to talk to someone about your results, fill out a test results request form and someone will be in touch.
